Judgments
All
the work by Roque is inspired on a civil protest against violence, oppression,
demagogy and injustice together with the strict determination to formally
search something new. Original, expressive and communicative language about
the most ideologist and cultural avant garde from Europe and America.

Roque
has recently exhibit at the Rizzoli Gallery in Milan. We find him in an
international level, I mean, not only that he has lived in Paris, Florence
or Verona but the universality of his work.
In
his acrylics, he appears free from Pollock’s lessons but in his drawings
appears a very personal technique with a formidable representative ability.

In
each of his gestures one can find music, poetry and spirituality guide
by a mastery that very few have.

As
painter, Roque produces all these: social eagerness, expression, academic
perfection, almost sculpture volumes, sense of unit…one and another search
that are encounters. It is important to follow him. His name must be considered
in the history of our pictorial art.

Roberto
Roque is a young painter, not only because of his age, but also because
of his enthusiasm of search, his restless and his rebelliousness translated
in a query about expression way and how he transforms line and space in
the way he sees the world.

…A
delicate surrealist trends, with any doubt, product of the unfolding reality
in the mysterious field of dreams. The sum of personal experiences, studies
of art applied in mental therapy, confrontation with landscapes and people
in strange horizons that flow in a suggestive mixture of many of his paintings.

Maybe
the last pictorial trend of this millenium is the new plastic creation
“Roquismo”. Brought into life by the end of the seventies by the Mexican
painter Roberto Roque. In his endless search to express his art,
Roque has invaded other materials, other colors, other figures and other
spaces to consolidate his feelings up to the stones.
River
stones with a great variety of forms, in the hands of Roque are transformed
in artistic objects: bright colors invade its contour. Women with joyful
gestures, wince of pain or astonishment slide through the walls, dreamy
plants of many forms and colors take possession of its silhouette. Stones
that metamorphose in eternal beings

In
Roque, the means perfectly correspond the necessity. His acrylics on wood
always with more exhausting tones and chromatic scale, remind us the teaching
of a great Mexican master as Rufino Tamayo beat in his fine textures in
the skin as in the lights of its backgrounds.
Roque
works with modern and antique techniques, providing a veil over a light
veil, so his acrylics seem to bright in an internal light. For us is not
a common art. Works that we hardly forget. This verification is a cognitive
element. Is an acknowledgement for a mature and complete artist as Roque
that introduces himself more convincing in an international scenario.

For
the complete search where pictorial and plastic technique join. In the
individual and delicate execution of the effort to reinvent those values
of formal purity and vary and antique cultures due to his role of bridge
between antique and contemporary art. Roque can be considered among the
most complete and interesting artists of the new American generation.
An
enigmatic and luminous painting have a flavour of a “surrealistic
realism”. His quarrys, his plates of stones worked in low relief, painted
combining with abridge rhythm through a delicate diversity of planes, extend
the uncover zones that exalt the natural roughness of matter.

If
we observe his inks, we perceive a fine drawing load of refine calligraphic
impulse rescued from the ornamental arms to make them live and pulse of
pure expressive energy. On the other hand, in his paintings he loves the
chromatic variety, knowing how to harmonize with an oniric imagination.
Painted as some examples in Mexican painting history.

Roque
begins from the essential historicity born from the psychiatric practice.
From mural to mural surpasses Siqueiros, goes through Rivera to touch Orozco
that initiate the adventure of great mural Mexican painting and weak icons,
as Octavio Paz wrote “a reality of a current and eternal time, universal
and concrete, a reality in endless fight with herself”
Is
the artistic change of the quarrys, stony mass that Roque works polychromatically
done by vibrant images strongly compromise with his time.
