QUARRY (FREESTONE)

Plates of stone worked in low relief, with intertwine colored sections with “syncopated rhythm”, with fine difference from the plans, wide uncovered zones exalting the natural rough of the material.

Is interesting the work in stone (quarry), it shows a different level search by Roque, closer to its Mexican origin, closer to the motifs that inspire the erotism of his feminine images. In this field exists remarkable examples: Nicki de Saint – Phalle, but it seems to me, that the determined sincerity that goes through his stones is more free and less elaborated from other artists more famous than Roque is. In this work, graphic shove maybe gets free because the wish to create an object from itself is stronger and is placed as an sculpture: a sculpture with color.
A non-common art for us: plates that we hardly forget.
