Maybe, the last pictorial trend
of this millenium could be the new plastic creation “Roquismo”. Started
by the end of the seventies by the Mexican painter Roberto Roque y Manrique,
a conjunction of his last name and the world “roca” (stone in English).
In an endless search to express his art, Roque has “invaded” materials,
colors, other figures and other spaces to consolidate his feelings. The
use of “yute” to provide volume, wood to create forms, cotton cloth and
sand to create stages up to the stones.
River rocks: known as “piedra bola”
(ball stones), with a great variety of forms, in Roque hands become artistic
objects: brightly colors invade its contour; women with joyful gestures,
wince of pain or astonishment slide through the walls. Oneiric plants,
a variety of forms and colors take possession of its silhouette: stones
that metamorphose in eternal life beings. Each stone have a different story,
but also each of its impenetrable angles have a different message, at the
same time, transmit something different depending on the spectator point
of view.
