Each stone has signs of a remote
epoch, printed during the stormy rolling of millions of years, each of
these stones have been examined, touched and studied up to find a form,
an idea that later will be a sketch. A drawing, spots of color are superimposed
to create spaces and volumes, movements and figures, lights and shadows.
The tragic strength of his topics, of his work, is the fruit of a current
chronicle and ancient memories as Earth. Through his work, it can be foreseen
the remind of a civilization that untamed survives.
The themes of these stones can be understood only by abstracting the real dimension, because are murals, facades, monuments, sculptured mountains and the language that they speak its made of tactile sensations, essential and immediate visions. The strength of the colors, the violence of its forms projects themselves to infinite spaces. They interlace, sometimes violating or respecting the stone, up to its most tiny porosities. Each stone is a world, is a piece of work with movement. It is necessary to round them, to touch them, to observe them in each position, to move away and return to any of its infinite points.
In the National School of Professional Studies Acatlan (UNAM), Roberto Roque found the possibility to culminate his project “pictomonolithic”. It is a six meters height and sixty-seven tons of weight rock, fully covered with colors and form, named “The Humanity Today”. This project took four years planning and processes it. In addition, four years more of intense pictorial work.
The rock was transported and placed by Ingenieros Civiles Asociados (ICA), directed then by his vice president Fernando Favela Lozoya.
The great rock is an andesite, an igneous stone, probably expelled by the Xitle or the Ajusco, volcanoes that surround Mexico City.
The Aztecs, Olmecs, Toltecs and so on used the andesites. The Aztec Calendar, the Giants of Tula or the Coyoxauztli were sculpted in this kind of stone.
This picto monolithic work is located over an inverted cone base, which seems a volcano. Covered of volcanic stone, emulating the moment when it was expelled. The work talks about the danger of the atomic war, the pollution and the holocaust. At the same time, expounds as proposal the integration of human being with Nature, and not backwards as it happens, if we consider that human being is the last guest in this planet.
